Infineon EconoDual 3 TRENCHSTOP IGBT7

Infinian Technologies has announced that it will offer the new TRENCHSTOPTM IGBT7 as standard industrial package EconoDUALTM 3.

TRENCHSTOP IGBT7 technology-based 1,200V modules provide a rated current of 900A, which allows a 30 percent higher inverter output current with the same frame size as previous technology. Modules with improved chips and housing are optimized for industrial drive applications and are also suitable for commercial/construction/agricultural vehicles (CAVs), servo drives, solar and UPS inverter applications.

Based on the new micropattern trench technology, the TRENCHSTOP IGBT7 chip operates at a much lower conduction loss than the IGBT4. The on-state voltage is as low as 30 percent with the same chip area. Therefore, the loss is greatly reduced in industrial drive applications that normally operate at intermediate switching frequencies, and also improved oscillation characteristics and IGBT control. The power module can operate up to 175°C in junction temperature when overloaded.

Another advantage is that the freewheeling diode (FWD) is optimized for drive applications. Forward voltage drop of emitter control 7th generation diode (EC7) is 100mV lower than EC4 diode and is less likely to cause oscillation when turning off diode.

EconoDUAL 3 has a high power density and does not need to use the module in parallel, thus simplifying the inverter design and reducing costs. In addition, new technology can be implemented in the same footprint so that existing inverter system design can be easily upgraded. The EconoDUAL 3 module improves housing, allowing higher current and temperature to be processed. The product with the TIM(Thermal Interface Material) in advance reduces the thermal resistance and extends the life span. And the process time and cost can be reduced to the PressFIT housing.

TRENCHSTOP IGBT7-based EconoDUAL 3 is the first product in the family to provide a 900A module.Infineon Technologies plans to release additional module type/current capacity in 2020.
